Land Use
We are currently in the midst of the process of overhauling our land use code. We eliminated the controversial "mountain merger" provision in the code, made changes so
it is easier to run agricultural operations on rural land, updated our comprehensive
plan to reflect long-term sustainability, and added strong greenbuilding requirements for
all new construction. And we just passed a new program that addresses neighborhood compatibility
and the issues that arise from construction of extremely large homes in the County.
There is still a lot more work to do as we continue to improve the code. When we are done, we will have a greener and more sustainable County, the code will be simpler and easier to
understand, it will be easier for residents to figure out how building codes apply to them,
and the outcome of land use processes will be more predictable for applicants and neighbors.
