Transportation
With the overwhelming support at the polls last year for the passage of the County
Transportation Tax extension (thanks Boulder County voters!) we can go beyond efforts to
maintain the existing road system. We can continue adding shoulders to our county roads and
increasing safety for cars and bikes (this program has already won us an award from the
U.S. Department of Transportation.) We will be able to make intersection and other road
improvements, build out the regional trail system, and improve transit service
across the entire county.
When FasTracks passed in 2005, we voted for better bus, rapid transit and rail connections
to the rest of the metro area. Now we need to ensure that RTD builds the rail line from
Longmont to Boulder and on through Louisville to Denver on time and as set out in the
ballot measure we approved. I will also be continuing to work to designate the rail
corridor a "Quiet Zone" (so we will not hear extremely loud and unnecessary train whistles)
and to minimize the amount of unsightly fencing built around tracks.
